Post Cruciate Ligament (PCL)
Incidence of PCL injuries varies between 1% and 44% of all knee injuries. It is not common and 95% of all PCL injuries have associated ligament injuries.
You will be in a PCL stabilising brace for 3 months whether being operated or not. Your compliance with the brace is very important.
Optimal rehabilitation is important: protected weight bearing and quadriceps rehabilitation in association with our physiotherapist.
Surgery is suggested in:
- Avulsion fractures of the PCL
- Isolated grade III injuries
- High demand sportsmen with grade II injuries
- Failed conservative treatment or other associated ligamentous injuries.
The practice uses autograft ‒ bone patellar tendon bone or hamstrings depending on your daily activities.
